Airport runway almost complete

Lead Summary

Dan Scott admitted that he almost had tears in his eyes as his good friend and fellow New Hampton Airport Foundation member Jason Lahmann flew him over the airport runway recently.    As he looked below, the retired New Hampton businessman got his first really good look at the “new” runway at the Municipal Airport.    “It was pretty amazing,” he said, “and to realize that all the hard work we’ve put into this was coming to fruition, that was pretty special.”    For years, the Foundation has worked to renovate the airport’s runway, and this month, the dream became a reality as Heartland Asphalt began work on renovating a runway that had largely remain untouched since it was put in 50 years ago.    The old runway was dug up, a new eight-inch base was put in and a three-inch asphalt overlay was put down in two 1 1/2-inch sections.
