Westendorf age 85 of Fredericksburg, died Monday, April 10, 2017 at New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, April 14, 2017, at the United Methodist Church in Fredericksburg with Pastor Michael Christie presiding. Interment with military honors will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg.Friends may greet the family 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home in Fredericksburg. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.  Online condolences for Alvin's family may be left at hugebackfuneralhome.comAlvin Ernest Westendorf was born September 10, 1931, in rural Sumner, the son of Ernest A. and Selma B. (Vandersee) Westendorf. He received his education in Fredericksburg and was a 1950 graduate of the Fredericksburg High School. Alvin served in the United States Army from May 4, 1954 until being honorably discharged on May 3, 1956. He then served in the Army Reserves for five years. He and his brother Marvin farmed over 45 years together northeast of Fredericksburg. Alvin was an active member of the United Methodist “Church in Fredericksburg where he served on several boards and was a longtime usher. He will be remembered for his ability to repair everything on the farm. He was a true hands-on mechanic. Often in his later years, he and Marvin would be seen eating out at their favorite spot, ‘The Hole in the Wall in Lawler.He is survived by one brother, Marvin Westendorf (Janet Westendorf) of New Hampton; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harvey (Burneta) Westendorf, Virgil (Viola) Westendorf.
