Caleb Ulrichs, age 18, of Nashua, IA, died Sunday, January 13, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 17, 2019, at the Nashua Plainfield High School Gymnasium; 612 Greeley St, Nashua, IA 50658.
Interment will be held in St. John’s United Church of Christ - Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Nashua with Lukas Bucknell, Dylan Downing, Drew Moine, Elizabeth Fisher, Abby Poppe, Gabe Ulrichs, Natalie Ulrichs, and Jacob Kukral serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Griffin Stoughton, Megan Martin, Faith Franzen, Maddi Moorman and the class of 2019.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed towards the family for a memorial that will be dedicated in Caleb’s honor.
The family has requested friends and family attending to bring a photo of yourself and Caleb for the family to keep and cherish.
Friends may greet the family 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at the Nashua Plainfield High School Gymnasium. Visitation continues an hour prior to the Funeral Service at the Nashua Plainfield High School Gymnasium.
Arrangements are with the Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home in Nashua.
Caleb Rilee Ulrichs was born on October 14, 2000, in Waterloo, IA, the son of Jeff and Victoria (Shannon) Ulrichs. Caleb attended school at Nashua Plainfield where he would have graduated in the spring of 2019.
A passion for music was planted in Caleb at an early age. When Caleb entered middle school he was eager to join the band. He played the French Horn in several honor bands, pep band, and the Nashua - Plainfield High School marching band.
Caleb loved being a Husky. He could be seen at nearly every school event either helping or participating. Caleb was proud to be a Husky and call his hometown, Nashua. He was the first male cheerleader for Nashua - Plainfield High School and was a member of the 2016 State Cheerleading Championship Team. Caleb was extremely agile and nimble. It was an impressive feat that he could do a back flip.
Caleb was active in National Honor Society, was a Gold Star recipient, a member of the Family Courier Community Leaders of America, Third Degree Black Belt - Tae Kwon Do, participated in Dorian and multiple honor bands, was on the Husky Leadership team and was honored by his peers being chosen the 2018 Homecoming King.
Caleb loved planning social events whether it was a get together with friends or being a part of the Water Over the Dam Days Committee. From these experiences, Caleb aspired to become an Event Planner.
Caleb was an amazing son, brother, friend and all around person. His contagious smile and fun-loving personality will be missed by all.
Caleb is survived by his parents, Jeff (Tori) Ulrichs of Nashua, IA; brother, Keegan Ulrichs of Nashua, IA; grandparents, Ron (Jenice) Ulrichs of Nashua, IA, Terry (Vonnie) Shannon of New Hampton, IA; great-grandmothers, Jeanette Ulrichs of Nashua, IA, Laura Koeff of Denver, IA; cousins, Natalie and Gabe Ulrichs of Dyersville, IA; Griffin Stoughton of Colorado Springs, CO; aunts & uncles, John (Jeanne) Ulrichs of Dyersville, IA, Gina (Grant) Stoughton of Colorado Springs, CO.
He was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents, Paul (Fran) Shannon, James (Rosie) Kramer; paternal great-grandfathers, Delvin Koeff, and Albert Ulrichs.
