Chickasaw Drake Relay hopefuls Rinken, Rochford hoping event gets rescheduled

Lead Summary

After competing in the long jump at the Drake Relays at less than 100-percent in 2019 due to an injury and not performing as well as she had hoped because of it, New Hampton senior Rachel Rinken had her eyes set on qualifying for Drake again this year - this time fully healthy - to improve on this showing.
Unfortunately, she may not get this opportunity. A press release from the organizers of the Drake Relays announced on March 18 that this event would be postponed indefinitely due to the Coronavirus pandemic in order to protect the health and safety of participants and fans. There is currently no reschedule date set.
“Honestly, qualifying for Drake has been one of my favorite high school experiences. Nothing is a better feeling than qualifying and getting to compete against the best athletes in the state and getting to watch all of the amazing college athletes compete too,” Rinken said.
