Chickasaw girls fall in thriller

Lead Summary

New Hampton's bats got going in the seventh inning of its regional semifinal game Friday at Cresco, but the Cadets struck down what would by the tying run, winning the game 2-1.
On a hit by Kallie Olson, New Hampton coach Jack Seelhammer sent one of the teams fastest runners — Rachel Rinken — around third and headed for home. But Crestwood hit their relay girl — shortstop Shannon Pisney — who made a perfect throw home to gun down Rinken before she could score.
With two outs already on the board in the seventh, that ended the Chickasaw season.
"We got the right scenario, it just didn't work out," said Seelhammer. "And it's not like we were ripping the cover off the ball."
Crestwood held New Hampton to four hits, while the Chickasaws struck out 11 times. The one run by the Chickasaws came on a home run by Maddi Moorman, also in the seventh inning.
