Chickasaw girls get a pair of champs

Lead Summary

Maddie Usher followed the game plan to perfection at the Northeast Iowa Conference meet Thursday and came home a champion.
Taking the lead from the start, Usher never faltered and pulled away to win the 800, and a few minutes later, her teammate and sophomore classmate, Claire Quirk, gave the undermanned Chickasaws two champions as she won the 400 hurdles conference crown for the second straight year.
“They’re two very talented and competitive people,” said New Hampton coach Jeanette Laures, whose team competed without injured star Rachel Rinken and finished sixth in the team standings. “I thought both of them ran really well, and that doesn’t surprise me. They go out and get after it every time they step on the track.”
