Chickasaw girls survive fouls and roll to NEIC win

Lead Summary

As a group of Alexa Wemark’s family members filed out of the school lobby after New Hampton’s win over Oelwein Friday, a comment was made about her followers.
“Yeah, I made a couple quick ones in the first quarter.”
No, Alexa, not a lot of fouls, a lot of followers. But as long as you brought it up….
“I like to play hard,” she said. “I see an opportunity to get the ball and I go after it.”
The junior may have fouled out late in the 54-28 Chickasaw win, but before she did she scored a career high 18 points. Three of her four 3-points shots came in the third quarter, helping the NH girls extend a 21-17 lead at the half to a 40-24 lead after three periods.
Also picking up some quick fouls in the first quarter was Maddi Moorman, her time in the first half was limited but she made up for it in the second half, keying the inside game while going 5-for-5 after intermission.
“Maddi is a force under the basket, that’s for sure,” said coach Chad Pemble. “When she got in she was bound and determined to score, you could see it.”
