 The New Hampton wrestling team will compete for its first state dual-meet championship in a dozen years later Wednesday after the Chickasaws overpowered Davenport Assumption 46-24 in a Class 2A semifinal meet.The Chickasaws, who improved to 29-2, took the lead for good when Max Babcock opened the meet with a 2-0 decision over Jacob Felderman at 120.A Michael Millage major decision at 132 pushed the lead to 7-0, and after the Knights cut the deficit to 7-6, New Hampton got pins from Noah Fye, Keaton Geerts and Keegan Tenge to take 25-6 lead.After an Assumption pin at 160, Ryan Gorman and Noah Glaser won decisions before Areon Day came up with a first-period pin at 195 to give the Chickasaws an insurmountable 37-12 lead.Dylan Robinson would add a decision at 106 and Cleveland ended the meet with a first-period pin.Solon's 61-12 win means the top two ranked teams in the state will meet in for the Class 2A title.
