Chickasaws can live with second

Lead Summary

There were folks who doubted Chad Sweitzer way back in November when the New Hampton boys basketball coach said his team could contend for a top-two finish in the Northeast Iowa Conference.  And those same folks figured the sixth-year coach was way off his rocker when the Chickasaws started the year 2-4 and 0-2 in the NEIC.  On Friday night, though, his Chickasaws showed that their coach knows a thing or two about prognostication and they gave Sweitzer his 100th career victory with a 78-67 victory over Waukon.  The win gave New Hampton an 8-4 NEIC mark, and coupled with Charles City’s 50-43 loss to Decorah, wrapped up sole possession of second place in the conference.  “I don’t know if I’ve ever have a team come together quite like this one,” Sweitzer said. “We had a lot of different guys who needed to find their roles and when they did, we really gelled.”  The rest of the story may be found in the Feb. 14 Tribune.
