Chickasaws claim another tournament title

Lead Summary

In the past five years, New Hampton has either been first or second at the BCLUW Tournament. This year it was first, as the Chickasaws went 5-0 on the day to take the title.  "We are really starting to click," coach Jess Geerts said after her team defeated North Tama, East Marshall and Gladbrook-Reinbeck in pool play, then won over Collins-Maxwell/Baxter and West Marshall in the finals. "I think we've found our core with lots of backup ready to play."  The tournament title was the second for the Chickasaws this season; they also won the Waukon Invitational last month.  This late in the season — and with none of the matches going past three sets — there were only a few Chickasaw season records, including a career record for Mya Anderson with eight kills against East Marshall. Four blocks by Ellie Ewert against West Marshall and two blocks by Emma Nicolaisen against East Marshall were season best efforts by the seniors.
