Chickasaws doing some ‘new things’ in next week

Lead Summary

New Hampton hosting a dual tournament in early January is nothing new.  Neither is the Chickasaws taking part in a quadrangular with Denver/Tripoli, Wapsie Valley and Dike-New Hartford.  Yet both events have something new attached to them this year as the Chickasaws will host the first ever Doc Carr Duals on Saturday and then head to that quadrangular next Thursday at the University of Northern Iowa’s historic West Gym.  “It’s exciting on both fronts,” New Hampton coach Nick Hemann said. “To have a chance to honor a guy and a family who meant so much to our community is a big deal. And to get the guys a chance to wrestle at West Gym, that’s pretty cool, too.”  Start with what used to be the New Hampton Invitational, a dual tournament the Chickasaws have won six straight times.  When Dr. James Carr passed away last May, Hemann almost immediately began searching for a way to honor a man who won a state title in 1957 and served thousands of patients during a long medical career in New Hampton.  The rest of the story may be found in the Jan. 6 Tribune.
