Chickasaws fall on the road

Lead Summary

They’re called quarters for a reason, mainly because their are four of them in a basketball game.
And New Hampton’s boys basketball team learned that lesson the hard way as one bad quarter cost the Chickasaws dearly in a 69-54 loss to Northeast Iowa Conference rival Crestwood.
“When we put four good quarters together, we’re a dang good basketball team,” New Hampton coach Ryan Rausch said after his team fell to 6-8 overall and 2-5 in NEIC play, “and when we don’t, it’s a struggle. We’re still, at times, looking for that consistency we have to have, and [tonight] we didn’t have it.”
New Hampton  got off to a decent start as Dillon Roberson scored six points and Drake Wemark added four to stake the Chickasaws to a 10-4 lead midway through the first quarter.
But a 3-pointer late in the frame pulled Crestwood to within one at 15-14 and was a harbinger for things to come in the second period.
More on the story may be found in the Jan. 18 Tribune.
