Chickasaws falter at tourney

Lead Summary

The 12th-ranked (3A) New Hampton volleyball team stumbled a little bit Saturday, winning two matches and losing two at a Charles City Tournament loaded with talented teams.    The nine-team loop included Janesville, the top ranked team in Class 1A, and Tripoli, ranked sixth in 1A, as well as host Charles City, who is ranked 10th in Class 4A.    Other teams at the tourney included South Winn, South Tama, North Tama, Wapsie Valley and Oelwein.    The Chickasaws opened the tournament with a 2-0 win over Oelwein, 21-11, 21-12. The Chickasaws then ran into a Janesville team that was primed to knock off all the bigger schools.    Janesville downed the Chickasaws in two games, 21-14 and 21-13.    Janesville showed it’s not afraid to stand up and take on the big schools in the state, leaving town with the tournament title. Janesville defeated host Charles City to claim the crown.
Results from the tourney, along with the Thursday win over Waukon, may be found in the Oct. 3 Tribune.
