Chickasaws find power in a 2-1 week

Lead Summary

Start with the good news: The New Hampton softball team showed off a little power as it went 2-1 last week.
The bad news? The Chickasaws still have a ways to go to catch the elite teams of the Northeast Iowa Conference after falling to Crestwood 10-2 on Friday night.
The loss came after the Chickasaws beat Oelwein 5-0 last Tuesday and then rallied to win a wild 12-9 affair over Decorah on Wednesday and it left New Hampton with a 3-2 record heading into the “second half” of the abbreviated 2020 season.
“I think we did have some positives last week,” New Hampton coach Lisa Rude said, “but I also think our inexperience really showed at times, too. We just haven’t had a lot of kids play that much varsity softball before this year, and then we have no spring hitting leagues or throwing to get ready. That’s tough.”
