Chickasaws hold off Cowboys for 32-25 win

Lead Summary

New Hampton had two touchdowns called back, gave up 19 points in the final 7:47 of the game, racked up 16 penalties and still managed to stay unbeaten in Class 2A, District 2 play.
The Chickasaws stormed out to a 32-6 lead but then had to hold off a spirited Clarion-Goldfield-Dows/CAL comeback to earn a 32-25 victory over the Cowboys.
New Hampton improved to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in district play, but it would be hard to find a Chickasaw who was happy with his team’s performance on Friday.
The first three-plus quarters, though, was all New Hampton.
Keagan John threw for two touchdown passes — one to Braydon Fisher and the other to Mason Cleveland — Max Schwickerath scored on a 1-yard run, John added a 15-yard scoring run and sophomore Austin Hemann’s first varsity field goal gave New Hampton a 32-6 lead.
But the Cowboys came storming back — scoring three touchdowns to give New Hampton’s it’s closest call thus far in district play.
The Chickasaws are back on the road next Friday, when they take on Crestwood, which fell to 2-1 in district play with a 21-20 loss to Osage.
