New Hampton showed off its power Wednesday morning as the top-ranked Chickasaws got six pins and rolled to a 51-23 victory over Denter-Tripoli in the opening round of the Class 2A state dual wrestling tournament.The eighth-ranked Titans took a 6-0 lead with two early decisions, but New Hampton won eight of the nine matches to move onto a semifinal date with Davenport Assumption, a 39-36 winner over Creston/Orient-Macksburg, in the semifinals at 1 p.m.Michael Millage got the Chickasaw train rolling with a pin at 126, and Noah Fye received a forfeit at 132 to give the Chickasaws a lead it would never relinquish. Keaton Geerts, Drew Boeding, Areon Day, Noah Glaser and Dylan Robinson also got pins for New Hampton while Ryan Gorman recorded a technical fall and Keegan Tenge, returning from a shoulder injury suffered in the Feb. 4 sectional tournament, picked up a major decision.New Hampton will take a 28-2 record into its meet with the Knights, whom the Chickasaws handled 51-19 at the Battle of Waterloo in December.Solon and Washington won the other two first-round meets and will also meet at 1 p.m. in the semifinals.
