Chickasaws win classic at Decorah

Lead Summary

The seniors on the New Hampton baseball team have literally played hundreds of games since they first became teammates on a travel team back when they were elementary school students.
But they have never had more fun playing the game than they did on Friday night, when they moved into the Northeast Iowa Conference with a 4-2 win over Decorah.
“I can’t tell you how much fun that was,” senior Josh Fenske said. “It was so intense, so fun … dang, you play baseball for games like that.”
His coach, Cory McDonald, smiled when he heard Fenske’s take on the game.
“It was that and more,” he said after his team improved to 17-3 overall and 8-2 in conference play. “We played with so much heart, and maybe these guys aren’t the most talented team we’ve ever had, but they play with heart and you can’t put a stat on that.”
