Coach lauds seniors after ‘home’ meet

Lead Summary

As Oliver Perez made his third lap around the Jackson Heights golf course Thursday, he was being cheered on by his coach. He pointed to her and said “this one’s for you.”  Now, Jamie Quass is not often quiet at any meet, but that subdued her for a time, and there may have been a tear or two.  “She’s the best coach ever,” said Perez after the race. “She made me push myself every race and turned me into a tougher runner.”  The annual New Hampton Invitational was held at Jackson Heights due to the amount of water that has flowed through the New Hampton course this summer. Although there was just a smidge of rain at the meet, there was also a peek at the sun.  “I’d like to give a huge shout out to the Jackson Heights Golf Course staff,” said Quass. “I am truly inspired by the extended community we have at Jackson Junction. Their beautiful golf course is certainly a hidden gem, so hidden that I didn't know it existed until I started teaching at Turkey Valley.  For all the New Hampton results of the meet, please see the Oct. 11 Tribune.
