Darwin W. Sittig dies at 78

Darwin W. Sittig, age 78, of New Hampton, passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at his home.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, in New Hampton, with Pastor Kevin Frey and Pastor Cindy Krause officiating.  Burial will be at New Hampton Cemetery in New Hampton, with Zach Sittig, Zane Sittig, Zared Sittig, Alan Sittig, Kurt Sittig and Tom Anderson serving as casket bearers.  Honorary casket bearers will be Carson Sittig, Skylar Sittig, Spencer Sittig and Brock Sittig.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Conway-Markham Funeral Home in New Hampton, and will continue one hour prior to the service at church.  Online condolences for Darwin’s family may be left at www.conway-markhamfh.com.  Memorials may be directed to the family.
Darwin Walter Sittig was born on February 10, 1939 on a farm in Calhoun County, to Ernest P. and Ella M. (Scofield) Sittig.  He attended country school and graduated from Rockwell City High School at Rockwell City, in 1957.  Upon graduation he began work with the Farmer’s Cooperative System for 44 years.  Beginning in Knierim, he was an assistant manager and later moved to New London.  In 1965, he started as manager of the Holstein Cooperative and managed Co-ops in George, Thompson, New Hampton, and Maynard, before retiring after 44 years.  While Co-op manager in New Hampton, Darwin served on the Land of Lakes Board of Directors for six years.  Darwin traveled three times to the Czech Repulic and Slovak providing training on Farm Cooperative Systems and farming.  He also worked as a crop adjuster for Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance.
Darwin served others in many ways.  He was a founding member of the Thompson, Rescue Unit and volunteered as a EMT.  He continued serving with Chickasaw Ambulance Service.  In addition, Darwin served on the city councils and as mayor for the communities of Holstein, Thompson, and New Hampton.
On April 2, 1961, Darwin was united in marriage to Ramona Lea Schoepke. To this union five boys were born.
Darwin is survived by his wife Mona, of New Hampton; five sons Tim (Pam) Sittig of Pleasant Hill, Todd (Kris) Sittig of Polar Bluff, Mo., Terry Sittig, Tony (Renata) Sittig, and Trever (Caitlyn) Sittig all of New Hampton; eight grandsons Zach (Chelsea) Sittig, Alan (Megan) Sittig, Zane Sittig, Zared Sittig, Carson Sittig, Skylar Sittig, Spencer Sittig and Brock Sittig; two great granddaughers Isabelle Sittig and Evelyn Sittig; siblings Marlene Coughlan of Kasson, Minn., Maureen Zuetlau of Rockwell City, Kathleen Anderson of Fort Doge, and Kevin Sittig of Waterloo.
He is preceded in death are his parents Ernest and Ella Sittig; two brothers Irvin and Kent, one sister Marilyn Seeden and brother-in-law Cecil Seeden.
