Democratic candidate makes pitch in New Hampton

Lead Summary

John Norris said there’s a reason he’s spent most of the first month of his gubernatorial campaign in rural settings.
“We have to reconnect with rural voters,” he said during a campaign stop in New Hampton on Tuesday, “and if we don’t do that, it doesn’t matter what we do. We have to show them that we are their party and that we are the ones who are really looking out for their interests.”
Norris has a long resume of government service that includes working on Sen. Tom Harkin’s staff, serving as Iowa’s Democratic Party chair, working as Gov. Tom Vilsack’s chief of staff and serving on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
He spent more than an hour talking with Democratic supporters during a stop at Klunder’s Kafe while in New Hampton.
