Dominating again on a Saturday

Lead Summary

New Hampton remained perfect on the season as the Chickasaws rolled to another volleyball tournament title, this time winning the Crestwood Invitational.
So after New Hampton claimed its second consecutive Saturday tournament, Chickasaw coach Jess Geerts was asked if it bothered her that her squad remained unranked in the latest Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union’s rankings?
“Not at all, I don’t care and I hope our girls don’t, either,” she said. “A lot of it with the Girls Union is they look at tradition, and, nothing against the teams we’ve played, the level of competition teams played. People don’t understand that in the game of volleyball you just can’t up and move tournaments.”
So as much as Geerts would have loved to put her team to the test at the Osage Invitational, where five of the seven team were ranked, there’s not much she can could do about it.
“To get into a tournament like that, first you need someone to leave,” she said, “and so when people ask why doesn’t she get into tougher tournaments, well, it’s just that easy as snapping your fingers.”
Details on the New Hampton matches may be found in the Sept. 11 Tribune.
