Elfrieda P. Neuendorf, age 95, of Fredericksburg, IA, died Monday, March 11, 2019, at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2019, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg with Rev. Ronnie Koch officiating. Organist for the service will be Janiece Kramer.
Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg with Todd Skoda, Joel Neuendorf, Dan Chipera, Kyle Chipera, Collyn Chipera and Alec Aries as pallbearers.
Friends may greet the family 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday March 15, 2019, at Hugeback - Johnson Funeral Home in Fredericksburg. Further visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Elfrieda Phyllis Neuendorf was born January 25, 1924, in Westgate, IA, the daughter of Henry and Serena (Koelling) Huebner. She attended the parochial school in Westgate and attended Maynard High School. She met the love of her life, Elvin Neuendorf, and the couple were married June 28, 1948, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg. To this union two children were born; Steven and Cathy.
The couple initially lived on a farm near Fredericksburg. Elfrieda spent time at home raising her children and taking care of the many duties on the farm. In 1960, the family moved to a farm they purchased near Fredericksburg. On the farm, Elfrieda and the family raised 6,000 pullet chickens along with growing crops. Elvin passed away in 1973 at a young age.
Elfrieda and a group of women from Fredericksburg got their drivers license together in their fifties. She was very excited about this as it gave her the freedom to get around on her own. Elfrieda spent many years working at the nursing home in Fredericksburg as a cook. She also helped at St. Paul’s with cleaning and doing numerous tasks.
Elfrieda loved gardening, and spent many hours tending to her garden. She was an excellent cook and baker and would prepare delicious meals for her friends and family, and we infamous for her delicious brownies. Elfrienda always found importance in having a tidy house and having it clean was important to her. She was very active at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fredericksburg where she spent countless hours volunteering in many different ways. Family was extremely important to Elfrieda, she loved getting together with them whenever it was possible.
Elfrieda is survived by one son, Steven (Jean) Neuendorf of Fredericksburg, IA; one daughter, Cathy (Dale) Skoda of New Hampton, IA; five grandchildren, Michelle (Dan) Chipera of New Hampton, IA, Todd (Bobbi) Skoda of Fredericksburg, IA, Sarah (Andy) Aries of Fredericksburg, IA, Nicole (Rob) Hannan of Fort Mills, SC, Joel (Ann) Neuendorf of Amana, IA; three sisters, Darlyis Vinch of Minneapolis, MN, Doris Wass of Mentor, OH, Hazel (Lew) Schrandt of Farmersburg, IA; sister-in-law, Mary Huebner of Bryon, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elvin in 1973; three sisters, Norma (Burt) Angus, Viola Huebner, Marian (Bob) Campbell; three brothers, Roger Huebner, Henry (Shirley) Huebner, Russell Huebner; twin brothers in infancy.
