Evelyn E. Fish dies at 87

Evelyn E. Fish age 87 of Nashua formerly of Plainfield, died Friday, June 2, 2017, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at the First Baptist Church in Plainfield with Pastor Clayton Balsley presiding. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene.
Friends may greet the family 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at the Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home - Olson Chapel in Nashua. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.  Online condolences for Evelyn's family may be left at hugebackfuneralhome.com
Evelyn Ellen Fish was born Aug. 1, 1929, on the family farm in Butler County, the daughter of Vern L. and Mabel E. (Smith) Kingery. She lost her mother at the age of six and her father remarried Maude Keith. She grew up on the farm with her brother Elvin and three half-sisters, Betty, Janice and Lois. She attended Scott 9 Country School near Marble Rock and was a 1946 graduate of the Greene High School at the age of 16. 
Evelyn worked as a secretary in the Greene High School to the Superintendent and also at a local insurance office. She met Leo Richard Fish at a softball game and their first date was a double-date. They were married on Jan. 12, 1947, in Charles City. To this union two sons and seven daughters were born. Evelyn and Leo raised their children in rural Plainfield. Leo died in 1970 and in 1978, Evelyn attended Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, KS and received a diploma in Theological Studies. In 1980 she became assistant Pastor at the First Baptist Church in Council Bluffs, where she served the congregation for 15 years.
Evelyn was always very strong in her religion and her faith and was active in church as a youth leader and in the women’s clubs. She was known for being a great cook and baker making the best butterhorn rolls and potato salad around. She was also a very active grandmother and loved babysitting her grandchildren. She will be remembered by her family for her faith, the love of her family and the time she was able to spend in her garden. 
Survivors include one son, Ron (Nancy) Fish of Nashua; seven daughters, Jeannette Driscoll of Nashua, Kathleen Frink of Council Bluffs, Nancy (Dale) Swanstrom of Bereford, S.D., Pam (Lee) Hartfiel of East Bethel, Minn., Martha (Dennis) Rego of Elroy, Wisc., Julie Whitten of Omaha, Neb., Lisa Fish of Federal Way, Wash.; twenty five grandchildren; forty great-grandchildren; one brother, Elvin (Dorothy) Kingery of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two half-sisters, Betty Kingery and Janice Ackart both of Greene.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother; her husband, Leo; one son, Stephen Fish in 1991; one half-sister, Lois Bell.
