Fenske wins Drake Relays title

Lead Summary

Moments after winning New Hampton’s first-ever Drake Relays' boys title, Noah Fenske passed out a ton of thank yous.
Fenske had just thrown the shot put 60 feet, 11 1/4 inches to win the all-class meet by more than two feet, and he talked about the support he has received from his coaches, teammates, parents and his community. But he saved his biggest thanks for his older brother Josh.
”He’s the who more than anyone talked me into going out for track,” he said.
And how did he do that?
”He told me I was an idiot,” Fenske said with a laugh.
Fenske talked after putting together an impressive run of throws. A year after finishing sixth, Fenske took his lead for good with a 59-8 1/4 second throw and was the only finalist to reach 60 feet - doing it on two throws.
Fenske joins Michele Carlin, who won the 800 in 1984, as the Chickasaws' only Drake Relay titlists.
