Geerts will wrestle for Panthers

Lead Summary

Keaton Geerts thought long and hard about just waiting to make his college choice after the high school wrestling season ended.  But in the end, his heart was set on the University of Northern Iowa, and with the choice out of the way, the New Hampton senior figured he could focus on being a Chickasaw for one final season.  “I won’t have to deal with the texts and the calls and people asking,” said Geerts, who has verbally committed to accepting a scholarship from UNI. “I want this year to be all about New Hampton.”  Geerts also made a recruiting visit to Nebraska, but he said all along he felt a connection to UNI head coach Doug Schwab, who like New Hampton coach Nick Hemann is from Osage.  “Hemann and Doug are like the same person to me,” Geerts said. “Both have that family aspect, and as much as I know they love wrestling, they want what’s best for the wrestlers on and off the mat.”The rest of the story may be found in the Oct. 14 Tribune.
