Geraldine "Gerri" Sloan Bodensteiner dies at 85

Geraldine “Gerri” Sloan Bodensteiner, age 85, of Osage, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage, due to end stage heart disease. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 24, 2016, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Father Raymond Burkle officiating. Inurnment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage. ln lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials may be directed to Faith Lutheran Home or Mitchell County Memorial Foundation.Gerri was born Nov. 8, 1930, at Fairbank, to Leo and Fidelis “Babe” (Woods) Sloan. She graduated in 1948 from Waucoma High School. On Aug. 23, 1950, she was united in marriage to Richard Bodensteiner in Waucoma. They began their life together in St. Lucas, where they lived for nine years. ln 1960, they moved to Osage, where they raised their seven children. Gerri worked for 27 years at Faith Lutheran Home as a Certified Medication Aide, starting the first night it opened. She enjoyed cooking for her family and there was always room for others at the table. Gerri also enjoyed playing cards and bowling with friends. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage. Gerri is survived by her children, Marcia (Tom) Schwab of Nora Springs, Linda (Ken) Jahncke of Osage, Vicki (Mark) Sivula of St. Louis Park, Minn. Gail (Doug) Jobes of Apple Valley, Minn., Rick (Linda) Bodensteiner of Osage, Jolene (Steve) Norby of Osage, and Dorothy (Michael) Follese of Burnsville, Minn. She has 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Gerri is also survived by her siblings, Ruth (John) Neuzil of Charles City, Jane (Leo) Huber of Davenport, and David (Bernie) Sloan of Scottsdale, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard Bodensteiner in 1990; and her siblings, Allen Sloan, Mary Hauer, and Jack Sloan.
