Harvey C. Knutson age 86 of New Hampton, died Thursday, Nov. 24, 2016, at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, 2016, at the Jerico Lutheran Church, rural New Hampton with Pastor Peter Faugstad presiding. Interment with military honors will be in the church cemetery.Friends may greet the family 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016, at the Hugeback Johnson Funeral Home in New Hampton. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.  Online condolences for Harvey's family may be left at hugebackfuneralhome.com  641-394-4334If so desired, memorials may be made to the Jerico Lutheran Church or Cedar Valley Hospice.Harvey Carlyle Knutson was born Nov. 17, 1930, in rural Lawler, the oldest of two sons born to Henry O. and Clara N. (Hereid) Knutson. ​He was babtized at the Jerico Lutheran Church on Dec. 17, 1930 by Pastor H. Tjernagel and confirmed at the Jerico Lutheran Church on May 6, 1945 by Pastor Neelek Tjernagel.  Harvey​ received his elementary education at the West Saude Grade School, rural Lawler and was a 1949 graduate of the New Hampton High School. Harvey enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. and served in the Korean War. Harvey began working for the Chickasaw County Secondary Roads in the early 1950’s retiring after nearly forty years in the early 1990’s. On April 8, 1978, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin, he married Verdene (Kalishek) Andera. In his early years, Harvey was an avid fisherman. He loved going for coffee in Jerico on Wednesday’s following his retirement. Harvey had been on the Jerico Lutheran Church Cemetery Board and a 60-plus year member of the Lawler American Legion Post 279.Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Verdene; one brother, Wallace (Elaine) Knutson of New Hampton; nephews, Dr. David (Dr. Anna Goldhan) Knutson of Cincinnati, Stephen Knutson of Greenville, SC; grandnieces, Miriam and Lydia Knutson; sisters-in-law, Lorene Porter of Lake of The Woods, Minn., Carole Wiltgen of Cedar Rapids.He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters-in-law, Juanita Schluetter, Ruby Winter, Mary Carney; brother-in-law, Lydell Kalishek.
