High drama on the diamond

Lead Summary

It was a storybook ending to storybook careers for the seniors on New Hampton’s baseball team.
All hope seemed lost for claiming a conference championship, as the Chickasaws were down to their final out in the bottom of the seventh, trailing 3-2 with nobody on base on Tuesday night against Charles City.
The Comets had already won the first game against New Hampton, and with Waverly-Shell Rock defeating Oelwein in game one of their doubleheader, it meant that the only way New Hampton would have a shot to win a share of the Northeast Iowa Conference title was to defeat the Comets in this second game.
