Hitting the track

Lead Summary

All in all, it wasn’t a bad start at all for the New Hampton boys track team.  Running in its first and only indoor meet of the season Tuesday night, the Chickasaws put together several solid performances at the Northeast Iowa Conference Indoor.  “It was our first time back on the track so it was good to get the boys a chance to compete,” New Hampton coach Scott Frerichs said “We were a little tentative in some races but did a nice job overall.”  The highlight of the night was Keagan John’s victory in the 1,600 meters as the junior finished strong to edge Waukon’s Austin Day by three-100ths of a second.  “KJ was running the mile, which he is using to get in better shape for his 800s,” Frerichs said. “We told him to not go out and take the lead but rather allow someone who runs that distance set the pace. He did just that and won a very close race at the end.”  For all of the New Hampton results, please see the March 24 Tribune.
