Huskies fall again but focusing on positives

Dreadful starts in at the start of both halves cost the Nashua-Plainfield girls basketball team dearly last week in a 68-21 loss to Mason City Newman.
The Knights jumped out to a 26-7 first quarter lead, extended the advantage to 38-13 at halftime and then outscored the Huskies 24-4 in the third quarter to put the game away.
Still, coach Josh Smith is trying to find the positives in a season in which Nashua-Plainfield has won just one of 14 varsity games, and those positives include a JV team that is near the .500 mark and a team attitude that hasn’t wavered despite the record.
“We’ve purposely kept our JV together at least for two quarters a game,” he said, “because they need to play together, too. People forget how young we are. Could they move up and play varsity full time? That’s the question, but I want them to stay together, too, as much as possible.”
