Huskies fall in a two-day opener

Lead Summary

Nick Lamphier probably figured he’d always remember his first-ever game as head football coach.
But, just in case, Mother Nature chipped in as the Nashua-Plainfield football team dropped a 20-0 contest to North Butler on a game that started Friday night and ended on Saturday evening.
“I’m getting used to this,” Lamphier said, “because we had four games with weather delays at Luther last year. … So that’s five of the last 11 games I’ve coached in that have been affected by the weather.”
The two teams got almost an entire half in on Friday before the storm arrived, and with 33 seconds left in the second quarter, the game was delayed.
“We just felt like we probably wouldn’t get back on the field until 10:30, 11 and we might as well just come back tomorrow,” Lamphier said. “To have my first game start one day and end on another, yeah, that’s going to be memorable.”
And while the Huskies fell short of their ultimate goal — a victory — Lamphier saw plenty of positives against North Butler.
“Defensively, I thought we played pretty well,” he said, “and even offensively, we’re not that far away. In my mind, we just missed a couple of big plays and if we get those, it’s a whole different ballgame.”
