Huskies go 2-1 in duals, get host of thirds to take third at Tripoli

If there is a rule when it comes to high school wrestling, it is this: Time speeds up after Christmas.
“Three weeks from this Saturday, we’re wrestling at sectionals,” Nashua-Plainfield coach Al Frost said earlier this week. “You get to Christmas and all of a sudden, it’s go time.”
The good news for the Huskies is they appear to be on the right track as they opened their 2019 portion of the schedule with two wins at a quadrangular last Thursday and then rode a host of third-place finishes to finish third in the team standings at the Tripoli Invitational.
Start with the quadrangular at Osage, where Nashua-Plainfield rolled to easy wins over Belmond-Klemme and St. Ansgar before falling to the Green Devils.
The night was highlighted by Jakob Whitinger’s 100th career victory, which came when he received a forfeit against St. Ansgar, but he did get on the mat once and recorded a 16-1 technical fall.
“I’m glad he got a match just because, yeah, he’s taken a lot of forfeits,” Frost said; in fact, the junior who is ranked second at 113 pounds has received 10 of them thus far this season.
