Huskies shut out of state wrestling

For the first time in 15 years, Nashua-Plainfield won’t be sending a wrestler to the state tournament.  And while that fact is disappointing to veteran coach Al Frost, he won’t fault the efforts his two Class 1A district qualifiers — Brock Dietz and Jakob Whitinger — gave him on Saturday in Lake Mills.  “The bottom line is both kids got stuck in some pretty tough brackets,” Frost said, “and I know they wanted more than they got, but they gave themselves a chance. It just wasn’t meant to be this year.”  Dietz took third at 106, and Whitinger did the same at 113, and while both wrestlers found themselves in true-second matches, they took different routes to get there.  More on the story may be found in the Feb. 16 Reporter.
