James Kenneth Rogers, 71, from Denver, died Wednesday, May 11, 2017 of natural causes at the Cedar Valley Hospice House in Waterloo.Services will be from Noon to 5 p.m. on May 20, 2017 at the Eagles Club located at 2125 W Lone Tree Rd, Cedar Falls, Folks interested in riding in the procession should meet at the Waverly Iowa Wal-mart between 10 and 10:30 a.m.Jim was born on March 7, 1946 in New Hampton, and grew up on a farm in rural Ionia. He graduated from Charles CIty High School in 1964. He married Evelyn Bass on October 31, 1964. Jim worked for US West and retired in 2001. He was a lifelong member of the Communications Workers of AmericaJim and Evelyn lived in rural Denver in their dream home that they built together with the help of their children and friends.Jim was an avid sportsman from youth, learning to hunt from his Dad; and was a life member of the NRA. He enjoyed motorcycling and traveling with Evelyn throughout their marriage and especially in their retirement. One of his greatest joys in life is the time that he spent with family, especially his grandchildren. Jim was the Assistant State Chaplain for the Patriot Guard Riders of Iowa. Providing comfort and solace to the families of our soldiers held a very special place in his heart.Jim is survived by his wife of 53 years, Evelyn, two children, Jay(Carolyn) Rogers and Eric(Kandy) Rogers, 4 Grandchildren, Beau Rogers, Jaceline Rogers, Alyssa Rogers, and James Rogers and 2 great grand children, Illiana and Ashlie. Jim is also survived by 2 sisters, Bertha Rogers and Susan Zimmerman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and May(Rabe) Rogers and his sister Carolyn Davis.
