‘Multi’ in more ways than one!

Lead Summary

Carlee Rochford laughed when she was asked about the first time she threw a javelin.
Put it this way, it did not go well.
“You know me, I can get pretty frustrated when things aren’t going the way I think they should,” the soon-to-be New Hampton High School freshman said, “but then my dad the next day suggested I imagined I was throwing it at Conner’s head and it seemed to go much better.”
Conner, of course, is her older brother, and don’t worry, Rochford was just joking.
But her performance at a recent AAU Junior Olympics was pretty darn good; in fact, her third place finish in the heptathlon qualified for the AAU Junior Olympics national meet that will be held in Greensboro, North Carolina, later this month.
If you’re not a track fan, you’re probably asking yourself what the heck is a heptathlon?
It’s a two-day event in which athletes compete in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and 200 on the opening day and then close the meet on the second day with the long jump, javelin and 800.
