New Hampton boys rout MFL-Mar-Mac

Lead Summary

It’s a simple fact when it comes to high school basketball games; when a team shoots better than 60 percent from the floor, it’s going to win … and usually by a large margin.
New Hampton provided the proof on Monday night as the red-hot Chickasaws, who hit 62.6 percent of their field goal attempts, rolled to an 87-58 victory over MFL-Mar-Mac in a non-conference game.
“We just shot lights out,” New Hampton coach Ryan Rausch said after his team improved to 7-8, “and a lot of that had to do with, we took really good shots. … Obviously, we had some guys feeling it, but it was just fun to see so many kids get involved.”
New Hampton jumped out to a 36-10 first quarter lead and never looked back. The Chickasaws had 50 points at halftime and led 74-37 heading into the final quarter.
And that gave Rausch a chance to give his bench players extended playing time in the fourth quarter.
“I don’t want that to get overlooked,” he said, “because those guys played hard and it was nice to see them get some varsity experience.”
