New Hampton star repeats as all-stater

Lead Summary

Anyone who drove past Stolz Park on the night of July 11 would have seen why Lauren Frerichs has been such a special player for the New Hampton softball program.
There she was, taking extra batting practice as her father and brother, Connor, traded off pitching to her while her mother, Lori, stood in the park’s parking lot to shag balls hit over the fence.
That family support is one reason Frerichs was named to the Iowa Girls Coaches Association’s all-state team for a second consecutive year.
“My family’s always been there for me,” the soon-to-be Wartburg College freshman said. “If I wanted to do something extra, they never said no and that helped a lot.”
