Despite cold, rainy weather, members of the Chickasaw Trail Riders Saddle Club participated in another successful Pony Express ride over the holiday weekend.

About $207,000 was raised for the Easter Seals Camp Sunnyside, which provides a camp experience for children with disabilities.

The entire ride, which begins each year on Good Friday, stretches from the Minnesota border north of Lime Springs to Ankeny. Chickasaw County horse enthusiasts’ share of the ride stretched from north of Lourdes to just north of Waverly.

Around 10 a.m. on Friday morning, a group of about 35 to 40 saddle club members rode  through downtown New Hampton.

“We have a very good turn out for the weather. I’m very pleased with it,” said Jeremy Deutsch, a member of the Chickasaw Trail Riders and the Pony Express.
