No wins but girls find NEIC success

Lead Summary

Although wins were tough to come by for the New Hampton girls track team Tuesday at the Northeast Iowa Conference Indoor, coach Jeanette Laures found plenty of positives.  “Overall, I thought the meet went pretty well,” Laures said. “This is an especially tough conference this year.  I look for many individuals on our team and other teams to place high at the state track meet in May. It's been many years since I've seen our conference be so fast.”  Laures pointed to two relays teams — the 4x200 and 4x400 — as proof of how fast the NEIC is this year.  Sadie Tenge to Kaelyn Ambrose to Bailey Knowlton to Darian Wegner produced a time of 1:55.89 to finish third in the 4x200 while Rachel Rinken, Tenge, Ambrose and Wegner turned in a blistering time of 4:22.68 to finish second in the 4x400.  “The 4x2 and 4x4 were both highlights for us,” Laures said. “We're off to a faster start in those two races than we've been in previous years.”  And Laures expects that when she puts those teams on an outdoor track, the times will drop even further.  The rest of the story may be found in the March 24 Tribune.
