Austin J. Onken, 22

Austin James Onken, age 22 of Waukon and formerly of New Hampton, passed away unexpectedly on Friday Oct. 1, 2021. 

A celebration of life is planned for Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Chickasaw Event Center in New Hampton, and hosted by Austin’s parents.

Austin James was born in New Hampton on July 28, 1999. 

He was baptized at Holy Family Parish in New Hampton.  

During his school years Austin played all kinds of sports, especially enjoying trapshooting during high school. He raced go karts for several years, winning two track championships. 

He was always soft hearted, kind and caring. He loved all kinds of animals and always had a way with them. He most recently had cats and birds.  He was a member of the Class of 2017 of New Hampton High School. 

After school he had worked a few different jobs trying to find his way in this world. In 2020, he married Veronica and gained a son, Aldous. He was a great husband and father. Austin loved spending time with them. 

He also enjoyed his time with his pets, playing video games and listening to music. He will be remembered for his humor, kind heart, and love for his family and friends. 

Left to cherish his memory will be his parents, Chris and Sara Onken of New Hampton; siblings, Nick (Cheyanne Crow) Dreckman of Cedar Rapids, and Jon Dreckman and Samantha Onken of New Hampton; wife,  Veronica. and their son, Aldous of Waukon; and several aunts, uncles and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Mary Dreckman and Linda Richter.
