Turkey Valley boys take fourth at UIC

Lead Summary

Jordon Snyder was fairly confident of his ability to finish in the top 15 to earn all-conference honors during the Upper Iowa Conference race last Thursday.     After all, the senior has been all-UIC his freshman, sophomore and junior years.     "I knew I should be in the top 10, for sure," he said. "For a team goal, we just wanted to beat Kee High. When we ran at Luana earlier in the season Kee got second, but we only had four people run so we couldn't score as a team."     The Trojan boys did beat Kee, but surpassed expectations by taking fourth place among the eight schools with enough runners to count as a team.     Along with Snyder in eighth place, Turkey Valley freshman Jaycie Byrne was an all-conference runner, in 11th place in the varsity girls race.     Coach Sarah Bakula's boys team was at full strength for only the fourth time this season.     "I was hoping for a fifth or sixth place, fourth is about the best we could do," she said. "They were very happy, as was I."     South Winn, ranked third in Class 1A, won the boys meet, while sixth-ranked Starmont was second.
Results from the meet may be found in the Oct. 17 Tribune.
