Reaping the rewards

Lead Summary

It’s a simple truth: Win a lot of football games and you’re going to get a lot of postseason honors.
Exhibit A would be New Hampton as the Chickasaws had 21 players honored by Class 2A, District 2 coaches as nine made the first-team, four were selected as honorable mention picks and 18 earned all-academic honors for having a grade-point average of at least 3.5.
“I’m happy with it, and I think it’s a good indicator of the team success we had this year,” New Hampton coach Scott Frerichs said. “You know if we go .500 and finish fourth or fifth, we don’t have the number of first teams picks. That’s just the way it is.”

New Hampton’s first-team selections included running back Braydon Fisher, offensive lineman Tyler Rentschler and Noah Fenske, defensive linemen Areon Day and Dillon Roberson, linebackers Josh Fenske and Keegan Kane and defensive backs Keegan John and Mason Cleveland.
The Chickasaws’ honorable mention selections were tight end Jake Zwanziger, fullback Max Schwickerath, defensive back Wyatt Stochl and offensive lineman Mitch Pickar.
Despite going 6-1 and winning the district title, the Chickasaws did not have the most first-team selections as Clear Lake, which lost to New Hampton 14-7 in the de facto district title game, claimed 10 spots on the team. And the Lions also claimed three of the four district-wide awards.

Details on each of the players may be found in the Nov. 10 Tribune.
