Chickasaw boys cruise past NFV

The Chickasaws were open for business on Saturday night — and business was good — as the New Hampton boys basketball team employed a workman-like effort, and some solid fundamental basketball, to open up a big second-quarter lead and sustain that through the end of a 65-47 victory over North Fayette Valley.
“We want to see good teams take care of business, and that’s what we did tonight,” said New Hampton coach Chad Sweitzer. “We told the kids we want to see good defense right from the beginning, and I thought our defensive intensity was really good. We had a lot of ball pressure and a lot of hands in the passing lanes.”
That defense held the Hawks to single digits in scoring in both the second and third quarters, while the Chickasaw offense began to establish itself early, drilling four of the team’s six total 3-point shots in the first quarter alone.
North Fayette kept pace for the first few minutes of the contest, but the Hawks were simply out-gunned.
“Every year we expect North Fayette to be a bunch of competitors,” said Sweitzer. “Dan Hovden is a great coach, and he gets the most out of his players.”
