Mavis LaVonne Burgart age 91 of New Hampton died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017, at Linnhaven Rehab and Healthcare in New Hampton.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, at Holy Family Catholic Church, New Hampton, with Rev. Brian Dellaert celebrating the Mass. Interment will be in the Wayne Township Cemetery, rural McIntire. Friends may greet the family 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2017, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home, New Hampton. Visitation continues an hour prior to the Mass at the church on Wednesday.  Online condolences for Mavis' family may be left at hugebackfuneralhome.comMavis LaVonne Burgart was born March 20, 1926, on the family farm in Gillette Grove, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Georgia (Logan) Hamrick. Mavis received her elementary education in Gillette Grove and started her freshman year at the Spencer High School where she graduated in 1943.  On April 19, 1945, she married Arthur Krukow in Jackson, Minn. To this union a son, Arnold was born. The couple farmed in the Spencer area from 1945 – 1950 when the family moved to a farm by Riceville. Due to health concerns for her husband, the couple sold the farm and purchased a general store in McIntire. The couple worked side-by-side in the store for many years. Her husband Arthur died on Feb. 20, 1979, at the age of 56 and Mavis continued operating the business until 1986.While at a local dance, Mavis met Clayton Burgart of New Hampton and on April 8, 1989, at the former St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Hampton, they were united in marriage. Mavis and Clayton enjoyed many years together and loved dancing and listening to old-time music. Mavis was known for working outdoors caring for her flowers and her yard. She loved to go fishing and playing cards with anyone up for a game. Clayton died January 4, 2012 at the age of 94. Mavis loved spending time with her large and extended family and the many friends throughout her last years.  Mavis is survived by one son, Arnold (Bonnie) Krukow of Riceville; grandchildren, Jamie Krukow of Riceville, Joe (Sarah) Krukow of Osage, Jake (Tara) Krukow of Des Moines and Sarah (Shaun) Jordon of Osage; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, LaVern “Joe” Hamrick of Spencer; step-children, Dianne Dann of Fredericksburg, Barbara (Dennis) Folkers of Oelwein, Cheryl (Kenneth) Lechtenberg, Richard (Janet) Burgart all of New Hampton, Roger (Mary) Burgart of Sumner, Randy (Linda) Burgart, Dixie (Jim) Joebgen, Rocky (Sue) Burgart, all of New Hampton, Dawn (John) Eichenberger of Lawler, thirty-one step grandchildren, numerous step great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Velma Hamrick of Spencer and Francella Burgart of New Hampton.She was preceded in death by her parents; both her husbands; three brothers, Lyle Hamrick, Harley Hamrick and Roland Hamrick; five sisters, Donna Albert, Ardis Bennett, Ruth Allen and twin sisters in infancy.
