Joseph Patrick Ferrie dies at 96

Joseph Patrick Ferrie, 96, of Cresco, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017, at Acccura Healthcare Center in Cresco.   
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Cresco, with Father Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Cresco at a later date. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Joseph Ferrie was born on August 14, 1921, son of Irven and Margaret (Fitzgerald) Ferrie, in Howard County.  Joseph was enlisted in the Army during WWII from 1942-1945. On September 24, 1947, Joseph was united in marriage to Marie Hruska at Holy Cross Church in Schley.  Together they had six children.
Joseph enjoyed farming, camping, reading, puzzles, word finds, and bullhead fishing at Waterville. He would spend his winters shelling walnuts. Joseph loved spending his free time with his grandkids, traveling, and volunteering. He volunteered at the Cresco Care Center for 35 years. Joseph was a 50 year member of the American Legion and the VFW and was a 75 year member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. Joe and Marie were instrumental in starting the museum at the Featherlite Building
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Marie Ferrie; children John Ferrie of Las Vegas, NV, Mary Jane (Randy) Leach of Fredericksburg, Pat (Tom) Milz of Stewartville, Minn., Thomas (Leone) Ferrie of Cresco, Linda (Doug) Smith of Cresco, and Alan (Sue Ann) Ferrie of Cresco; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; his sister Agnes Arnburg, and sisters-in-law Doris Ferrie, Darlene Ferrie, and JoAnn Ferrie.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Sister Mary Denise, Anicetus Friedhoff, Mary Gene Hyke, and his brothers Leland, Pete, Ron, Cecil, Art, and Jerome.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Notre Dame Church for a new casket pall or Howard County Hospice.
