Marjorie E. Hoffman dies at 93

Marjorie E. Hoffman, age 93 of New Hampton, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at New Hampton Nursing and Rehab in New Hampton.
Funeral Services were held at noon on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at Conway-Markham Funeral Home with Father Brian Dellaert officiating. 
Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery in New Hampton. 
Visitation was from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, prior to the funeral.

Marjorie “Marge” was born July 31, 1924, the daughter of Edward and Maria (Praska) Taylor in New Hampton.  
She attended and graduated from New Hampton High School.  
After graduating, Marge was united in marriage to Verne Edson in Ipslana, Mich. 
The couple returned to Iowa and made their home for a short time in Ossian, where they purchased the Ossian Livestock Exchange.  
They then moved back to New Hampton where they raised their three children —  Judy, Mary Jane and Vernon.  
Marge kept busy working for Sears, JC Penney’s and later as a bookkeeper for FS.  
Her and Verne also owned several businesses throughout the years, such as the DX Station, Dairy Queen and Krueger Motors.   
They spent their retirement traveling, and fishing until Verne’s death in 1987.  
In 1993, Marge was united in marriage to Paul Hoffman.  The couple enjoyed wintering in Texas together. 
Marge enjoyed visiting with friends and family, watching her backyard wildlife and putting puzzles together with her grandchildren.  
She was a member of Holy Family Parish and the Charles City Moose Lodge for a number of years.  
She is survived by her daughter, Judy (Dave) Baltes of Oklahoma City, Okla.; her son, Vernon (LaVonne) Edson of Cedar Rapids; her son-in-law, Gene Schultz, Jr. of New Hampton; six step-children; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and a special niece, Sandy Schwiesow of Freeport,  Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Verne Edson in 1987; husband, Paul Hoffman in 2004; her daughter, Mary Jane Schultz on Oct. 24, 2017; great-grandson, Vincent; sister, Mildred; and nephew, Kenny.
