Top of Iowa breakthrough

The game plan in some ways was simple — get the ball inside and limit turnovers — and it proved to be a pretty good one Friday night for the Nashua-Plainfield girls basketball team.
Libby Fisher scored 16 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and blocked five shots and the Huskies turned the ball over a season-low 15 times as they used a strong start to beat Northwood-Kensett 39-27.
The night could not have gotten off to a better start for the Huskies as they held the Vikings — a team that had beaten Nashua-Plainfield 47-34 earlier in the season — scoreless in the first quarter and raced out to a 9-0 lead.
“Overall that was definitely the most complete game we’ve had on the defensive end since I’ve been coaching,” Nashua-Plainfield coach Josh Smith said after his team improved to 2-12 overall and 1-9 in Top of Iowa play. “We came out in our press right away and I think that gave N-K a lot of trouble. We didn’t necessarily generate the amount of steals out of it like we did against Riceville, but it sped them up and led to mistakes throughout the game.”
Fisher, meanwhile, was dominant on both ends of the floor.
