Trojan boys ground Eagles

Lead Summary

With 3:32 left in the first quarter of Turkey Valley’s win over Clayton Ridge Tuesday, the Trojans owned a 12-4 lead, with 10 of those points by the hands of Keegan Balk.
“I got the open looks, we were swinging the ball around well and I was open a lot,” said the sophomore.
Balk was pretty modest about his team-high 14 points, but the team’s hydration facilitator was nearby, and was a bit more, shall we say, wordy after the 65-34 Trojan win.
Hydration facilitator? Is that like a waterboy?
“The term is hydration facilitator, the sign is on my locker and everything,” said Simon Schmitt.
“Yeah, it’s a waterboy,” countered Balk with a grin.
Schmitt had surgery this season on his elbow, but just wanted to be a part of the team. “I think this team has an opportunity to go far this year,” he said. “We gel together so well and nobody has a big ego.”
That certainly goes for Balk, who is second on the team in scoring, currently with a 10.5 point per game average, up from 7.1 points last year. “We do all click well together,” he said. “And I am scoring a bit more than last year.”
“Keegan had the hot hand early,” coach Chris Sullivan noted.
