Finding themselves

Lead Summary

It was a night when, for once, everything seemed to click for the New Hampton boys basketball team.
The Chickasaws scored early and often, posted a season high in points and rolled to an 89-55 win over MFL-Mar-Mac Monday.
“Hey, we’re on a winning streak finally,” New Hampton coach Chad Sweitzer said, “and I think we’re finally seeing the team we thought we had all along.”
New Hampton hadn’t won consecutive games since putting together a three-game winning streak that culminated with a victory at Turkey Valley on Dec. 11.
After beating Decorah on Friday, though, New Hampton came out with a confident step.
“Winning does wonders for your confidence,” Sweitzer said. “You saw that tonight. Everyone contributed. I mean everyone.”
A Jake Zwanziger 3-pointer at the buzzer gave New Hampton a 26-12 lead after one quarter of play, the Chickasaws extended the lead to 46-23 at halftime and cruised in the second half.
And when Sweitzer said everyone contributed, he wasn’t kidding.
Zwanziger scored a team-high 27 points and continued to sparkle coming off the bench. In the past four games, the senior has averaged 20.8 points per outing.
“I don’t care if I start or I come off the bench,” Zwanziger said. “Honestly, what’s ever best for the team is fine with me."
