Chickasaw wrestlers roll to regional title

Lead Summary

After a quick 54-27 win over Charles City — which only took 40 minutes — New Hampton’s wrestlers earned yet another banner for the Chickasaw gymnasium as they won their regional with a 57-17 victory over Clear Lake to qualify for the state dual meet, which takes place next Wednesday.
In the final round New Hampton and Clear Lake, a 41-22 winner over Iowa Falls-Alden in the first round, were close early as the Chickasaws had a 9-6 lead after three matches. But when Cale Reicks pinned his opponent at 160, he started a string of wins which included falls by Noah Glaser, Max Schwickerath and Carter Reicks, and when Areon Day pinned the Lions’ Jake Keith at 285 the win was clinched.
“Clear Lake’s gritty,” said coach Nick Hermann. They’ll bring it and they’ll try and make you pay for it.”
The state dual meet will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday for 2A wrestlers. For more on the story, please see the Feb. 9 Tribune.
